Canned Tomatoes

I have been thinking of trying to can tomatoes for a few years now. I know that it's not safe to eat them out of a can because they are lined with BPA, and the acid in the tomatoes breaks down the plastic and so the tomatoes are full of the chemical. We grew a LOT of tomatoes this year, and had plenty, so I gave it a try.

Here is the "recipe" that I used.

I started with two Large bowls of Tomatoes (and put them in a box). These are ALL from our garden!!!! There are about 5 different kinds of tomatoes here. I even used some cherry tomatoes (which was a pain and I don't recommend it).

Here is my production line. One pot to boil tomatoes, and then a bowl of ice water to put them in (to make the peels easier to remove). Removing the peels was where all the work was. Everything else was very easy.

I boiled the lids in a frying pan, had a bowl to put the peels in, and then a big pot to boil the tomatoes before putting them in the jars.
Adelaide was so good the whole time. Here she is at my feet playing with Mr. Potato head for a LONG TIME!

Here is what all of those tomatoes looked like once they were peeled and put in the pot.

And my final result! Not bad for just using what we had in the garden! Now I just hope they taste okay =)

California was my HOME

We had an amazing trip to California to see our families and best friends. There never seems to be enough time to spend with everyone. Sometimes I wish we lived in Chico so we could be closer to all of these people. I love Portland morea than anything, but I wish all of our loves were here with us!!!

Oktoberfest

There is a big Oktoberfest celebration every year in a small German town not far from here. I have always wanted to go, and this year we did. It was rainy and crowded, but Adelaide had a lot of fun. She even made a little German Boyfriend =)

Rocking Horse

When Myles was a child, his father made rocking horses for he and his brother. Myles mom has hung onto them all of these years, and sent Myles horse to Adelaide. It is a beautiful horse, and arrived just in time. It only took one day for Punkie to figure out how to climb up and ride like crazy. It fits her perfectly and she loves it. How lucky is she to have a horse that her daddy used to ride!?!?

22 Months

At 22 months old Adelaide can:

a)Count to 10 (if she feels like it)

b)name most of her colors. Sometimes she gets confused with Red. I think Purple is her favroite.

c)sing along to most of her favorite songs, especially Eldweiss, Twinkle twinkle and baby Beluga.

d)name her basic shapes and also put the shape blocks in the right holes.

e)put her animal puzzel pieces in the right places.

I think she is super smart. Every day she does something that amazes me. She can even sing the whole first verse to "blackbird" by the Beatles now. She is a genius.

Daddy got me dressed and took these

Adelaide loves Lucero

Here is what Adelaide and Myles do when I'm not home. I thought we had a "no TV" rule...but it appears that she really likes TV if it has music (especially Lucero) playing on it!

Hoyt Arboretum

It was a rainy day, but that didn't stop the three of us from taking a little hike in the arboretum. It was a really easy hike (good thing because Adealide was "done hiking" after about 15 minutes). It was beautiful of course, and one more reason why I love living in Portland =)
