More bath fun

I went back to bathing Punkie in the sink. I like it because I can make the water all soapy and get her really clean, and then hose her down with the faucet thing. She doesn't seem to mind getting water in her face or eyes much. She doesn't like to lay back, so there is nowhere else for the water to go! Now that her hair is getting thicker it's really fun to wash it =) She loves the bath, and doesn't splash and kick as much as she used to so it's a little easier. I'm not sure what will happen once she gets too big for her little tub!

Adelaide LOVES the cats, and Buddha really loves her back. They are really cute together. Here is a video and some pictures to show their relationship. I wonder if Adelaide knows how to tell the two cats apart?

Tremendous

Today as we were leaving the restaurant where we had lunch, I was stopped by this cute little old couple sitting side by side in a booth near us. They had to be in their eighties or ninties! The woman said...
"I just have to ask you, is this your first baby?"
"Yes" I replied with joy in my eyes, I am always excited when someone wants to talk about Adeliade
"I can tell" she said. "We have been watching you, and the love you have for that baby is tremendous"
I almost started crying. I don't know if it's because my love was acnowladged, or because I somehow was doing something to show even a perfect stranger the love that overflows out of me for my daughter. Of course I love her tremenously, she is my kid...but for someone else to point it out...that she actually noticed that....I felt proud and greatful. It seems like an obvious thing to notice with any mommy and baby, but has our culture gotten so far from the basic happieness in life that people notice such natural things like the way that I love my own baby? I hope Adeliade knows how much I love her, and Myles knows how much I love him, and if I can make it more obvious to the world as well, then I must be doing something right!

Our friend Natalie sent us a package with some very special stuff in it. Here is Adelaide in the shirt Natalie made for her. It's so perfect!! The color is darling, and the stitching is amazing. She also sent me a nursing necklace, but I forgot to take a picture of it. I'll be sure to put one up soon. Thank you Natalie for all of the special stuff, and the book too! I have begun trying to make some super porage for Adelaide. Did your kids really eat that stuff? I really hope she does!

Adelaide first tried to wave last Friday on May 22nd at the end of our playgroup. I have been working with her to get better at it...and here she is today!

My favorite time of day

I love waking up next to my Punkie girl and my cutie pie hubby. The mornings are so different now that I don't have to rush to get up and go to work. I feel like the luckiest person around, to get to wake up with my baby and start the day happy every time!

Memorial Day

We had a nice relaxing Memorial Day. Our friend Collin came over and we barbecued. The weather was perfect! We set up Adelaide's Johnny jumper in the tree and she loved it! We also let her taste her first watermelon, and she really LOVED that! She got watermelon all over her face and clothes. She is going to be a great eater I can already tell. She also sat on her rocking chair all alone with the help of her pillow. She seemed to feel very proud of herself sitting all alone! We are so happy that the summer weather has arrived!

I barley caught this dance here, but she is so cute and makes me laugh when she does this little tummy thrust. Now that she knows it's so cute, she does it every time I put her down to bed. What am I supposed to do? I just hug and kiss her over and over.

These are Adelaide friends Oliver and Waylon. They were all born within a few weeks of each other. I love it when the babies are together =)

First Sign Language class

We hosted the first of our Signing classes here at our house. We have a total of 8 family pairs taking the class..so there is quite a lot of us! It was such a nice day out, so we decided to have it out on our front lawn. The weather was perfect, and it was a great start. We learned the entire alphabet, along with other words that I think I already knew. I am going to be practicing every day though, and plan to have the first signs that Adelaide learns be for Milk, Food, More, cat, water, mommy and daddy. I have been trying to do those signs each time I say the words to her..oh, and also "finished". I thought those would be good to start with. We will see how long it takes her to pick it up. I think she is really smart, so it shouldn't be long before she is signing away. I just have to be sure and keep up with it!

First foods

On Tuesday Adelaide tried her first food. I made her pureed carrots in the babycook that Joan got for us. We got organic carrots, and they turned out bright orange and had a very strong carrot taste. I wanted to start with carrots because I thought they would be a little bit sweet, and they are on the recommended list. I made them extra watery for her. I don't think she really liked them very much =) She only took a few small bites. I had some myself, and I can't say I thought they tasted that great either. I usually like all kinds of food, especially veggies, but they just had such a strong carrot flavor! I gave them again to her yesterday with the same response. She didn't have any reactions to them physically which was good!



Today I made some organic Brown Rice cereal for her to try. I blended the rice in a coffee grinder until it was powder and then mixed it in the boiling water. It looks a lot like Molto meal (sp?). I thinned it down with breast milk so it was very watery too. I think she liked it! She kept opening her mouth for more, although her tongue thrust reflex is still spitting out most of the food that goes in. We just did a few bites. It's fun to see her being such a big girl and trying out new things. I think I will just keep with the carrots and the rice cereal for another week to see how she does. Myles wants to do spinach next, but I'm thinking something more sudle like sweet potatoes. She looks so tiny in her giant high chair and bib!!
